The Harlem River Drive extends the route of the FDR Drive north to upper Manhattan and the approaches to the George Washington Bridge. As the parkway winds its way into upper Manhattan, the views are a bit less impressive, but there is a great deal of historical interest in the old bridges that cross the adjacent Harlem River.

The parkway is almost always congested at EXIT 17 (I-278 / Triborough Bridge) and EXIT 24 (I-95 / George Washington Bridge), but the NYSDOT promises significant re-design work at both locations. Like the FDR Drive, the Harlem River Drive is subject to flooding during heavy rains.
