Arguably the East Coast equivalent of the Pacific Coast Highway, the Ocean Parkway takes you from Jones Beach to Captree State Park with panoramic views of Great South Bay and the Atlantic Ocean on either side. The parkway is a pleasure to drive, particularly in the off-season, and even more of a shame that it was not extended east to Smith Point.

More recently, the parkway has become a congestion-free alternative to traffic-laden east-west arteries on the Long Island "mainland." The one area where safety is compromised is the median U-turns, but with such low traffic volumes (about 15,000 vehicles per day), this really is not much of a concern.
