Rate "red light" between QC 139 and QC 116 for its current "super-2" state (that is currently crowded) and had witnessed numerous accidents. Some gaps like Richmond-Windsor were finally 4-laned, but some intersections still remain between St-Grégoire and St-Célestin.

The four-laning of Autoroute 55 (Trans-Quebec Autoroute) between Sherbrooke and Drummondville should have been done 25 years ago. (Back then, A-55 was signed dually with A-51. A-55 was to be built as a separate highway from the Sherbrooke area north to the current A-20 / A-55 / A-955 junction near Victoriaville, but this was never built.) Since I last traveled this section in 1994, there has been some progress on the four-laning front. The overpasses are ready for a second carriageway, and some grading has been done.
From Magog (A-10 junction) south to the U.S.-Canadian border, A-55 is a beaten-up highway, but at least it has separate carriageways. This section of A-55 was undergoing reconstruction when I traveled it in 1994, so the pavement condition may have improved.

The main thing is the at-grades intersections: two on the very-south part and five on the southern part. It is undersigned (little rural road-style distance signs) and under-forested (bad visibility when traveling at night) which reminds me a lot of A-955.
Also, the Laviolette Bridge has no median barrier. The new section from QC 161 to Rang 9 in Saint-Wenceslas is far better than the Trois-Rivières-Bécancour preceding one! No at-grades intersections, better signage and lighter curves.
I hope the northern A-40 Trois-Rivières Bypass ever be completed to lighten the traffic on the A-40 / A-55 multiplex (Trois-Rivières-Ouest).
